I have had 12 Lucentis injections over the past two years and yesterday had a scan and review with the Consultant. It seems this treatment hasnt improved my RVO but it also hasnt got worse. We are trying a course of Eyelea injections in the hope it might work better for me. The only other treatment offered was a steroid implant injected into my eye which would last 6 months (whereas the current injections are monthly for 3 months, then review scan). I would be so interested to hear from anyone who has had this steroid implant injection. I have always heard that steroids make diabetes control more difficult. @Dark Horse can I once again tap into your excellent knowledge. TIA.

Sorry to hear that your RVO hasn't improved. There is some information about steroid implants here:- http://www.diabeticretinopathy.org.uk/intravitrealsteroidimplants.html

Steroids do increase blood glucose levels but to a lesser degree when given to a targeted area such as the eye. Although you are being treated for a non-diabetic condition, steroid implants are also used in people with diabetes for diabetic macular oedema - and they wouldn't be given to people with diabetes unless the potential benefits outweighed the potential risks.

Thank you so much that is very helpful. It gives me a better understanding of the steroid implant procedure if the Eyelea route is unsuccessful. Thanks again.

Another ask: has anybody had a steroid implant injected to solve retinal vein occlusion?
