Trying to lose weight

Its two weeks tomorrow since I found out i have diabetes type 2 and I weigh 17 and a half stones ..I am five feet four inches tall. I started my reduced sugar/fat/carbs/calories diet straight after been told I was diabetic but I haven`t lost one pound !

Normally if I reduced my calories down I could easily lose half a stone in a week. What is happening it is so annoying and disheartening. My blood sugars are coming down and I now walk every day (never did any excericse before). I take 500mg metformin

Is it related to my diabetes ? Is my body holding back on burning my fat because I now eat no sugar etc ? Any advice much appreciated.

Hi Floridagal,

You say you've reduced your diet. Are you concentrating on lowering your carb intake or just sugars? I set a target of 150g of carbs per day and I started losing weight almost immediately.

Hi floridagal

I know exactly how you feel.

I read on here countless times (and still do) about the weight falling off people once they are on metformin and reduced carb intake. I, like you, didn't get the results I was looking for. However, for the first few weeks for some reason I lost inches rather than weight. Then the weight did start to fall off-slower than I wanted it though.

It can be disheartening reading how well everyone is doing and thinking you are the only one who isn't. But please be re-assured that you are not alone. Alot of us are struggling with weight issues and this forum is a brilliant help. There is a thread for recording weight loss-a bit like a diet club but without the expense and hassle

I am still stuck and losing it very slowly if at all (the chocolate biscuits aren't helping but that's another problem/thread). I have so far lost 1 and 1/2 stones since diagnosis in September. I put weight on over Christmas and have only just got back to my pre Christmas weight.

Still got another couple of stones at least to lose.

I suggest that you take your measurements with a tape measure as well as the scales. And stay positive as the weight and inches will start droping off. I keep telling myself that it is better to lose the weight slow rather than fast as it is more likely to stay off.

Good luck

Thanks I will have a look at the weight loss forum.

Swimmer 2 I have reduced my carbs intake to 50g or less a day..just dont know why I am not losing weight as usually I would do.

I will invest in a tape measure tomorrow and keep a track of my measurements. Chocoholicnomore you have lost a great amount of weight well done !
