People with Type 1 diabetes can still produce their own insulin - even 30 years after diagnosis. Depending on your body mass, cholesterol levels, etc., etc., it could be that your body has not yet completely given up on producing insulin in quantities that it needs.
Have you been given any equipment, e.g. blood test meter and 'daily diary' / log book? If so, it would be useful for both you and them if you logged your daily activities, including foods you've eaten (and the total carbs per meal / snack, etc.), exercise, medication, etc.
You should also ask if you can have a C-peptide test as this could help them determine how much insulin your body is still producing.
