Hi everyone I have been a type 1 diabetic for 23 years. I have ok control and my last hba1c was 6.9%. I was wondering has anyone else had Bells Palsy? This is the second time of me having this with in 18 months. When I asked my doctor why I kept getting this he said the cause was unknown and to put it down to my diabetes. This time isn't as bad as the last time but I think that is due to me recognising the symptoms early on. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Hi and a warm welcome to the forum,
i cant help with your question as ive never had it but hope someone will be along soon to help

I had it last year and it was a bit strange. I first noticed it when I realised I couldn't spit my toothpaste out properly and it came out of the side. Over a few days I lost the movement in the left side of my face and went immediately to the GP as I was worried about a stroke. She just said that it would sort itself out over a couple of weeks and to go back if it didn't improve. It simply cleared up over the next few weeks.
It wasn't bad as you couldn't really notice unless I smiled because I couldn't open the left side of my mouth properly.
Apparently diabetics are more prone to this but no one really knows even what causes it or why. Just another thing to add to the list that we are more susceptible to.

Yeah I know. The first time I had it the whole of my left side wouldnt move. This time it is just my mouth but I was wondering if this is going to keep happening as there has only been 18 months between each episode.
