Type 2 born to a Type 1 mother

When I first had gestational diabetes in the 1980s and then was I was diagnosed with Type 2 in the 1990s I was told there was no link with the fact my mother had type 1 diabetes. I believe that was the understanding at the time but that now it is thought there is both a genetic link and an impact from the intrauterine environment that increase the risk of insulin resistance developing in later life. I wondered if there is anyone here that shares a similar family history and how this has shaped their experience?
