Whilst I have had Type 2 Diabetes for some long time, and am treated by taking Metformin, could someone plese tell me in simple terms what diabetes is. I know it is relevant to blood sugars and glucose but how. Do I produce too much insulin, not enough, etc. Thank you so much

Type 2 is a funny one - I'm Type 2 and don't REALLY know what it is. Basically, you either:

Don't produce enough insulin, or
Are resistant to the insulin that you do produce

I'd love to know which it is for me - but the doctors don't seem to want to find out for me...

Hello Ostrich and welcome to the forum.

Another view point on it is that your system is no longer dealing with the carbohydrates you eat as it was designed to do, whatever is the actual underlying cause.

That is why so many of us have cut the carbohydrates we eat and combined it with self testing. This enables us to get control of our blood sugars and to either avoid going onto medication for as long as possible or to come off the existing medication. 8)
