Hello,in Nigeria mostly our standard meals are mainly carbohydrates, and i have found that it is not easy to maintain 75-115mg/dl. What i do is supplement with drugs and a little exercise, but still it won't come down to that range, but hovers around 120-130mg/dl,or sometimes higher. What do i do. And again i have noticed i have boils and breakouts regularly on my head, and sometimes between my buttocks. I need help :? :x

hi welcome to the forum

in england our standard meals consist mainly of carbohydrates too

do you not have meat, vegetables or salads? cheeses even? it maybe harder to find in nigeria i have no idea

im afraid im a low carber and only know this course so cannot offer any help, hopefully someone will come along with some ideas

Hi Andy,
Thanks for the reply. Yes we do have all you mentioned, very readily available. We are very large eaters here per meal, and as you know, the more food on the plate, the more carbs, the higher the blood sugar level. I am just concerned about the break-outs on my head and bum sometimes. Will like to know if anyone else has same issues.

come to think of it fish! lol my next door neighbours where nigerian from the age of 0 -11 and i remember they loved their fish

sorry i dont know about the breakouts mate

good luck

I've had a few problems with boils in my hairline, according to my GP this was due to the excess blood glucose with provides an ideal environment for the type of bacteria that causes boils. The only treatment really is to get your BG down, which I have done via a mixture of exercise and reducing my carbohydrate intake (and also a few less calories too in order to get my BMI into the middle of the normal range).

If reducing carbs is difficult, and I know it can be, then try and eat less processed carbs with a low GI value - this normally means cutting out starchy carbs as much as possible (rice, potatoes, wheat breads etc)- lots of information on this site and others about that.
