There's a tutorial on the site (not forum). I've only been testing for three days and find that you can get a good idea of the effects of food on glucose by testing 2 hours after.
Your fasting test should be done as soon as possible after waking up, without eating or drinking anything. Good luck with your testing and control.
1st take a deep breath, then have a mooch around here. Many of us type 2's find a lowe(er) carb healthy fat diet is the way to go. How low depends on your body. Some go full on Carnivore (meat & animal products only) some Keto (less than 20g carbs a day) some up to 100g carbs a day. If you've not been give one, and you can afford it get a Meter. It has nothing to gain by selling you this WOE (Way of eating) or that WOE. It just tells you what that particular foodstuff does to you.
Remember that this is a marathon, not a sprint.
Finally Welcome to our little corner of the internet
Try the sides, near the nail. Pricking the pad WILL hurt.
Expect to waste a good few more. There a knack to getting a nice rounded drop. 2 of my fingers refuse to play at all! You'll get to know your own, but it is so worth sticking to
