Hi, can anyone tell me their experience as a T2 having to take insulin, if this impacted on being allowed to drive and if you have to inform DVLA that you take insulin.
Hi, you do have to advise the DVLA and you get a license that has to be renewed every 3 years. As long as you are well controlled, you will be allowed to keep driving. I haven’t had any issues with car insurance either, which was something I was worried about. I’ve been on insulin as a T2 for about 10 years now.

You fill out a form online.
The DVLA may contact your GP but I am Preet sure they don't do so every time. My last renewal arrive 5 days after I filled in the online form and I know my doc does not complete anything in that time!

As an Insulin user for 47 years & acquiring the privilege driving since 1986 on it.
This will give you an idea what needs to be filled out.. (for me, every 3 years which is the maximum..)
I started on insulin about 6m ago. My GP told me all diabetics should consult DVLA. Im not sure that is true . But yes on insulin you do. I filled in the online form, my GP was contacted and I have a 3 yr license . I always take a fingerprick reading 1/2 hr befiore driving . I carry jelly babies ( or glucose tablets and / or Appletise) Any full sugar fizzy drink will do and I have my fingerprick device with me . All inc case i feel unwell.
Hope that helps Ask if it needs more explanation
I had a 3 yr license before for mental health issue. After a few years I was given a full length one.
