Hi
I am a type 2 that has just started 10 units of background insulin as I have had to reduce metformin as I have a egfr of 40 and a Hba1c of a steady 6.7
I wake up with glucose about 10 mmols and have breakfast that leaves me 2 hrs later in the low 20's and the rest of the day around 10's 2 hrs after meals. I have not been given targets so can anyone help with that and tell me what I need to eat for breakfast to stop the spike
Thank you I know that there will be sensible answers Thanks John

Ps I inject after getting up in morning

All carbohydrates, apart from the fibrous parts will turn to glucose when digested. If your breakfast contains a large amount of carbs it will cause your blood sugar to rise.
Avoiding high carb foods like cereal's, toast, fruit, should avoid the high levels you are seeing.
A lower carb diet is usually very effective at lowering levels, you will need to keep a close eye on your numbers incase your insulin causes them to fall too low
