I am so sorry you had a depressing time with your nurse. It really is not your fault you have diabetes. Anyone can get diabetes, fat or thin.

I am a little confused because it says under your avatar you have gestational diabetes, yet your name is Richard? If that is just an error you can change it in your settings. I assume you have type 2?

Have you been given any medication? It would be helpful to know this, and also what your HbA1c was on diagnosis.

I shouldn't get too upset because it is part of the culture of the NHS to blame you instead of them for your health.. If you are over weight then you could lose some weight but you are unlikely to do so if you follow NHS advice. Try not eating anything with flour or sugar in it for a while and see if you lose weight.

What a douchebag. It is not your fault that you got this and it never will be.

I had a few stern words from a flight surgeon. You know an old school doc, firm BT fair.

Only eat what you need to for that day. If your still hungry and you have had your calories try a water or black tea.
Lots of fluids.
Make all of your own food.

Smile at the small wins. Celebrate them. Walk as far as you can today. Do one more step each day. Be kind to yourself. Do not hard on yourself if you have a bad day. Out it behind you.

Sleep early. Wake early. Enjoy what you have and the small incremental steps work wonders.
