I had a large lightly batered cod, chips and mushy peas for tea. A weekly treat though today was the first time I tested afterwards - an 8!! I could have been running high from my lunchtime beans on toast (can't recall what the reading was) and didn't take my kit to test beforehand (was at a friend's) but I think it was defo the chips - very tasty too but defo have to be a treat now. Would anyone say that an 8 was ok-ish once a week? For a pre-diabetic that is.... generally trying to eat to my meter - found I CAN have one slice of seeded bread toast for breakfast - though 2 gave m a 10+ the other day, boy was I shocked. Having said that my slices are perhaps like 2 normal ones........7..7 fasting.Had a bit of fish from chip shop. Wife ate other half. Couldn't finish fish, I only had a quarter., which was 1pm.At ten past fours my blood is 9.9
Thanks allibee I've made a note of those sticks and will do a search for them.Yes. Your body uses up the glycogen stores first then starts to use fat stores instead. I dropped to 20 g of carbs a day. Then upped them v slowly to 45 g a day. That keeps me in ketosis.

I was 4.7 pre and 6.1 post for the one slice. I thought it strange that one seems ok and 2 was horrific!! Seeded for me with wheatgerm and wheatbranI find the same with bread. I eat Hovis Seed Sensations (14g carbs per 100g). I can eat one slice with very little effect providing it is with a meal and not on its own, but 2 slices sends me sky high. I still reel from a sandwich I had back in May. Tuna Mayo on 2 slices granary. I hit 12 at 2 hours and was still 11 at 3 hours. Those are my highest ever readings for anything at all. Weird, when one slice does nothing much at all.
The NHS guidelines for type 2's are under 8.5 at 2 hours, but most of us here consider this too high. The best way to measure is to look at the actual rise and keep it under 2mmol/l.
You seem to be stuck at thirteen something the last few days but I suppose after your hospital scare last week you will take these for now. Keep doing the right things and I am sure you will see them come down soon.13.6

Ally's before and after meal readings later in the day are usually much better these days. Like a lot of people, she is struggling a bit with her fasting counts. She has made great progress though from the very high readings she started with a few months ago.Ally, would it be possible for you to add what you've eaten when you record those figures? I ask as that will help others identify what might be responsible for those readings rather than second guessing what might be behind them.
Just a thought as you know there's a lot of people out there ready to advise
Have a great day
Mike

Ally has her own thread called BS readings where she gives a lot more info.
