Type 2's: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning?

4.2 and a somewhat sore ear for me this morning. Hopefully my immune system will deal with the ear. It's usually fairly efficient.

A whole new year, with a whole new set of objectives. Good luck everyone. Let's make it a fun one along the way.
 
6.5 this morning. Think this is more due to sleeping in until 12.30.... I have a rather sore head and an achy body... I guess I am getting too old to dance the night away in a drunken haze.... Still with the dawn of a new year, I find myself feeling very positive about the future

So Happy New Year everyone, here's hoping 2015 sees us all happier and healthier.

Just wanted to say that I hope 2015 brings your daughter some peace from all she is going through. I am sure that with your help she will come through this trying time, a much better and stronger person.

5.7 for me this morning.

I am going to have to get used to somewhat higher numbers. I have just switched this week to a codefree meter. Direct comparison with my OneTouch shows that it registers half a point to one point higher. Of course I want to believe the lower number, but who knows? I remind myself that it is the trends that count.

I've been using the Codefree for about 6 months. I've actually got three of them, and I find them fairly consistent in the 5-6.5 mmol/l range. Outside that range, things get progressively less consistent.

For instance, three successive tests on the same large blood drop may yield 5.3, 5.2 and 5.3

Whereas, 3 successive tests at a higher blood glucose might yield 8.4, 9.7 and 7.8

My policy is to test once if the reading comes in under 7, and twice if it is above.
-an added incentive to keep my BG low!

The last fasting test I have results for was my blood test (pre-diagnosis) and that was 16, so I consider this to be a good number so far

More Codefree party games (batch ending 26)

after lunch today I was expecting 6.5.

I got 7.4, 7.0, 6.4, 6.0 with clean hands in 4 consecutive tests, different fingers. The Accu Chek showed 6.6.
 
Took down all the Christmas decorations and cleaned the house like a crazy person Bg down to 4.1
Happy about that... But the house looks so empty. My thoughts turn to dinner.

Time to ditch the codefree? Or get a new one of same? Anyone know how long these things last? Or if there's any sort if "test kit" out for them to see if they're still reading "in range"

I'm happy with mine (Scrooge has nothing on me )

I just NEVER take any reading as more than a rough guideline...

That's all we can do. I doubt there is a great deal of difference between any of the meters. They all have to pass the same accuracy tests before they can be marketed.

Only put mine up Xmas Eve and love sitting wth just the tree lights on...... So mine are staying up a while longer.
 
I have two Accu check Aviva meters and can calibrate one off the other. They are expensive strips but I now get them prescribed and found them easy,quick and accurate meters to use. Usual margin of error between them is +-0.5 mmol/l.
 
One slice if toast did the trick..5.6 to .6.1, back to 5.6 pre lunch and post surprisingly the same. Last time I had lentil & veg bake (pkt mix you add cheese to) I spiked past 8 wth a third. Half today - no rise nor after further hour..... Tea will be same but wth veggie sausages added. Not sure how carby they are..... So good NY for numbers AND 2 young doggies, mother & daughter rehomed together today too
 
26 has been a funny batch for me. Lots of wildly variant readings especially at upper end of my range. I find that is true of the Codefree generally. Anything over 7 and it could throw a wobbly. I just use it as a guide but sometimes you do want it to be more precise ( like now when I am trying to see what effect no Metformin is having so I can have a sensible discussion about it with GP who called my burning joints and muscles a bit of gentle tingling )
 
I am about to order some more Accu Chek cassettes so I can continue to cross check any I am dubious about. What annoys me is the big difference between the highest and lowest readings. Half a mmol/l I can cope with, but some are just stupid. I've just been averaging them for my own records.
