Yep those garmin vivofits are great - there are so many excellent and relatively inexpensive fitness trackers out there that are brilliant for our needs. Plus most are available to some degree as an app for android or iPhone. I use a great deal of them eg pedometer, water meter, food tracker, hrm, bloods logbook, carb counter dos I like them and they do help me analyse what's going on right or wrong. For eg my present high fasting bloods.Day25 ND, 4.9 keeping away from buns and chocolate eggs!
@Baruney, I use a Garmin Vivofit to keep track of my walk/runs as it ties into many apps, such as you describe, even sleep, which I don't believe I ever get enough of, and perfect for checking progress towards my goal of 20 km before my next birthday.
Recently read of a Japanese study of walking quickly for 3 minutes then walking moderately for 3
minutes, which had metabolic advantages over maintaining a steady pace. So, a variation on HIT.
Cannot give reference, as was only reading while waiting for an appointment.
Hang on in there robbity- tomorrow is another day.Woke up with a migraine, and finally did my fasting test mid morning - 6.5, which could have been worse I suppose...
A really miserable start to Easter proper - and it's been dark, windy, with heavy rain all day, so I was glad I had a good reason to stay in bed. Spent most of the afternoon being cuddled by a cold wet little dog - he uses me as his hot water bottle when he needs warming up/drying off after his walks ...but it's often quite comforting to have him there tucked up under my shoulder!
I haven't been able to access the forum at all until this evening - though everything else seems to have been OK including the main diabetes.co.uk site.

I'm curious how this works.....do you have to be holding the phone?Hi again
I use this one on the phone but also bought a Bluetooth hrm as it ties in with some really good apps to monitor heart rate, zones, calories etc and all have great maps and graphs if your out walking. Let me know if you have any specific questions. Big fan of training for a specific goal.
Hope your migraine cleared quickly... So sweet to have your little dog cuddled up like that....mine are a big arm full of hug....Woke up with a migraine, and finally did my fasting test mid morning - 6.5, which could have been worse I suppose...

Thanks for that. Current phone doesn't have a flash but my old one does and internet connection still works if I'm within range of my router... Useful for when am on my cross trainer......Yes sable_Jan the apps work by putting your index finger over the camera and flash and gives a pretty accurate snapshot (takes about 10 seconds to read). Hrm work like analogue hrm but ties in certain apps like mapmywalk runkeeper etc and will give you a continuous heart rate reading plus avg hr and max hr,pace, speed, steps, calories etc. You can also program them to alert you if your hr is going to high or low so you can train in fat burning, endurance, carb burning etc.
