Hi everyone

Been around for a little while as a guest and decided to register here, my name is lucy and im 37 year old type 1 diabetic, the drs always call my diabetes as brittle diabetes because im forever struggling to get a balance..

Anyway I just thought id say hi

AT the risk of being jumped on by fellow forum members, I'm going to suggest that you try a reduced carb diet. That reduces the need for insulin and can stabilise "brittle" diabetes quite a bit.
Read "Dr. Bernsteins diabetes solution". He advocates what he call the doctrine of small numbers ie little carbohydrate and small doses of insulin. This means that if your blood sugar goes out of the safe zone, it only takes a minimal correction

Hi,
The balancing act between carbs, insulin and exercise isn't always easy. A bit like a 3 legged stool, change one leg and it affects the balance of the others.
If you want to ask some specific questions, its more likely to get auseful response on the type 1 forum. Its a good idea to include some info on the type of insulin regime you use, because it makes a huge difference.
Hana has recommended a book Before buying it you could read extracts from it on the internet, (just google it) this will help you decide if this particular doctors methods are for you. His advice is somewhat controversial since he advocates an extremely low carbohydrate diet.
There are others that might be useful such as this one.
