Hi, I've been a Type1 for 12 years.. Tried to keep myself healthy and fit... Blood sugars fairly normal, mostly ;-)...
However, more and more, I find myself exhausted and with aching limbs/ dull headache. Eventually intot he afternoon it usually begins to improve.. Anyone else experience these symptoms or found a reason/cure?
Thank you for any help.

Darryl,

I'm a new Type 1 (late onset) and can offer you little in the way of cure but I get the same. Every day around this time actually (2-4pm is the worst). I am fine before and after and my sugars are not low but I fall asleep in meetings, I can't drive, I'm basically a zombie for a couple of hours. So far have tried coffee, eating, not eating, insulin and exercise and can't stop it. Docs say don't worry so I'm not and assuming its just my body adjusting.

You are not alone though!

Hi Darryl

Have you ever had your vit B12 and D tested?

I and my little sister are on the lower end for B12 and my brother was told vit D deficient. We seem to respond to well to supplements though and I just wonder if this is trait in families with autoimmune problems in general?

Maybe worth a try asking for these and your iron level too perhaps.

Daryll and TTP im exactly the same! My worst slot is 3pm till 6pm - I can hardly stay awake and my legs feel like lead and thy ache as well. I don't know whats causing this but it certainly is having a detremental affect on me

Do they test for vit D and b12 when they do a full blood count or do you have to ask for it specifically ??

So glad I came across this thread. I feel tired most of the time but it's my heavy/dull kind of head that bothers me most of all. I had my thyroid checked and that's ok. I have been told it's early days and there is a lot going on etc etc. However all that doesn't help the problem.

Hi Riri, iron's and thyroid testing is part of the full blood test, but vitamin testing isn't.

As my family seems to have various issues currently I didn't have any probs getting mine tested.

Thanks Sanober - must ask to get this checked out I think.

I should have added that my husband believes its because I'm not eating enough carbs ( )

I have cut back but I do eat at least 110-140g per day which is not exactly 'low'. I have told him that other people do not have problems with energy when they are on much lower carbs than me but when he says it it does niggle me a bit and then I get to thinking is he right??!!!

Thanks for your messages ... I read somewhere that Lantus insulin may cause fatigue etc if not stored correctly? I've been out and bought vitamins and tried to eat healthy & switched insulin to a fresh batch.. Maybe even stop drinking completely for a while... Good luck to all!! I would be interested if anyone else is taking the same insulin?

Yes I take lantus and did suffer from fatigue a few years ago, I did look at lantus as the source of my problems after tests all came back fine, in my case it wasn't the insulin and after reducing the carbs slightly, eating healthier, losing some weight and exercising I started to feel much better than before.

It's important that you have thorough blood tests to check your thyroid, iron etc before looking at changing insulins.

Hi darryl, I take 6 units of Lantus at night.

Hi I'm on Lantus 14u but only been on it 6mths

Hi Daryll
I have been a type 1 diabetic for 37 years. I was tested for B12 and i am now having B12 injections every three months. But funny enough i had and appointment for my thyroid and they tested me for Vit D and it has come back low as well so have been put on Adcal D3 1500mg/400 I> U one tablet twice a day.
But i have been feeling exactly the same but i do have trouble with my back. I have the start of Arthritis in lower spine and had my facet joints L2- L-5 injected, but i have had terrible pains in shoulder joints, but very thing just seems such an effort some days to do any thing.
Hope your ok. Make sure you ask for the test as it is known that we can get these complications.
Take care.
Tracey
