general question really, how do you handle an unsolicited private message?

Depending on content, either ignore and block person or report to admin

Do you have a problem?

I think there's an option to block the sender, but could be wrong (it won't be the first time.)

I go for ignore, seems to work for me.

Never had more than one from an individual poster.

No it's not a problem, just unsolicited.

I just never understand why someone chooses to PM a random stranger without making the effort in a public forum first.

And I am more than a little cautious about these things.

Trust your instincts!

I judge each on the content, I've had a few and never had any problem personally - sometimes you want to take something out of the personal forum.

Block or report if they unnerve you.

This was one of the reasons I made my profile visible to only a few people.

I love interacting with people on the forum, but I found PMs from people asking questions, or striking up conversations, a little disconcerting.

I always directed them to ask their question, or interact, on the threads, because if they were thinking it, there would be other people who were wanting an answer too.

If it's offensive in any way do you want to include myself or another moderator in the pm and we will take a look.

No no, as I said earlier, it's not a problem. If it was offensive in anyway I would just have reported and blocked. I just needed to get a feel as to what others do.

And as I am a cautious person I like to know what my options are before making knee-jerk reactions.
