Spoke to my doctor on the phone today and feeling a little less stressed.
They will not provide meters but have put me down for a 3 monthly blood test for the time being.
The diet/menu ideas you sent on to me are helping and I am working out my own eating pattern and have lost 3lb in weight so that is a start.
I have also notified other health professionals and now feel ready to begin to deal with this 'thing'. I know I cannot ever cure it but the longer I can delay the effects the better and I am used to this idea through my other health problems.
My doctor reassured me that it was nothing 'bad' I have done but rather the results of the damage to my pancreas.

hope to gain some good friends on this site so that will be a bonus
 
Hi if you go onto the different websites that make the monitors or ring them up most will send you a free monitor and you get 10 testing strips which is not much but at least then you have something may be worth trying.
 
so glad that I kind person on this site got me sorted with a meter
Hving an infection and taking steroids has made it important to watch how this has affected my sugar levels and could not have managed without it and would probably have paniced when I was feeling at my worst but was able to be sensible..it is only an infection!

Thank you all especially as I am only diet treated and not having anything like the troubles so many of you have
 
Hi Susan, I am diet only as well. My nurse did give me a meter but told me just to test when I didnt feel "right". They are not going to keep giving them to me so bought my own meter from Amazon, the SD codefree, cost me nearly £20 for the meter and extra 50 strips. Replacement strips are £7 for 50.

First time I used it I also tested with the meter that the nurse gave me and the readings were exactly same so was good. Have been using ever since (which has only been a few days, lol).

I have lost 15lb so far and got a long way to go yet. Its hard slog but worth it.
