Hi all.

Have been diabetic for about 10 years .3 500 metformin per day. Have lost a stack of weight.

Hba1c 5.4 latest Hba1c has never been over 7.

Question 1 Just had a urine test TRACE protein detected. is that normal./ dangerous.Haven't had a creatinine test for years I should drink more water

Question 2 Will metformin degrade deteriorate kidneys over time maybe I don't need them since I still eat some sugar

Just heard from pharmacist normal metformin can be taken without food is that true.Still get aftermeal spikes

It hasn't been easy.

welcome Thyroiddiabetic
I´ll tag @daisy so you´ll get the information that everybody gets here in this forum... it does maybe not contain the answer to your question but a lot of other valuable information..
very good numbers indeed concerning your Hba1c

when being rather ill at the hospital I has some proteins in my urine, but it never develloped really seriously, i think it all depends on the amount and on the reason why you have these proteins in your urine....
I think you should wait and see what the GP or hospital finds out and not worry too much..
I think one can have some protein in ones urine too if one is loosing muclemass when loosing weight...

but maybe some other persons in here cn tell you more of the subject..
proteins can be hard on ones kidneys I think is part of the possible problem

I think you should drink enough water at least, like depending in what climate you live in...

I can take my metformin on an empty stomach, but most can´t do that without getting problems with their stomach
