VICTOZA users

Hi all, I'm a new names ian and im 36

I have recently started using Victoza as my dr thought it would suit me best. I'm a type 2 whose overweight my heaviest was 30 stone im now 20 stone and still losing. The problem i had was i could rarely get my levels below 10 but the norm for me was between 13 and 15. And thats with a sensible diet and healthy eating.

Ive been on victoza for my 3rd day today and my levels are already in the 8s and its also helping with curbing my appetite. Which for me is going to be a great help. Ive had to start on a 0.6 dose for 7 days then increase to a 1.2 dose. So i'm hoping this will begin to be a great help for me and would love to answer any questions as i go along with this.
 

I'm in exactly the same position as you. I've just started on Victoza and today is my 3rd day on 0.6mg dose. Like you, I switch to 1.2mg next Tuesday.
 


Hey are you pleased to be on victoza, How have you found it so far and side affects yet ? I felt a bit sickie on the first day but havent had any thing else just loss of appetite.
 
I felt a bit sick at first on 0.6 for a couple of days then again when going up to 1.2. I lost 20lbs in the first 3 months then levelled off and have kept the weight off looking forward to the Summer and getting out more and possibly loosing a bit more.

Yes, I was on that too for the first 7days. It must be 'standard' to lead up to the 1.2 dose with the 0.6 dose - maybe to let the body get used to the new med.

Hope it all works out for you too!
 

So far I've not had any issues with Victoza, however, it's only been 3 days so far. I have noticed my appetite has been suppressed. I don't feel hungry, I've reduced my insulin dose by 20% and have had much better fasting blood sugar readings. Hopefully this will help me lose the weight and in the long run make my own insulin less resistant.

I've been on Victoza for quite some time now, I started in June 2010 (I posted up on here when I was first on it)
In the first 10 months or so I lost a fair bit of weight, 35lbs all in all. My appetite was greatly reduced, which made losing the weight very easy.
I then came to a standstill and didn't lose for a few months :?
So I increased my dose to 1.8, but that hasn't seemed to have made much, if any difference, so I might go back to 1.2 again, and see how I get on.
Even though I'm not losing any more weight now, and have infact gained about 10lb of that 35lb, over the last 6 months or so, which isn't good! (I really must try harder and introduce a little exercise into my day) my sugar levels seem to be doing ok though, and since starting on Victoza I've reduced my Lantus, once a day injection, from 100 units, down to 16 units, which is excellent, and has obviously helped with the weight loss. :thumbup:
I am due back at the hospital in May, so I really must try and get these gained pounds back off again, plus a couple extra, because I fear that they might decide to take me off it. I really do hope they don't because that will mean upping my insulin again to control my blood sugars, which will mean weight gain! :crazy:
So for all you newbies on the injection, I hope you're getting on well with it and you're having pleasing results.
Make the most of your early days on it, especially if it's helping you with weight loss, because I do think, after a few months, the effects do seem to wear off.
And yes, in my first week, I had slight sickness too, nothing major though, and it soon passes, so stick with it! and I wish you well
It would be interesting to hear from other 'long term' users of Victoza, to know how you're getting on, and did it wear off with you too after time? and have you gained any of the weight you initially lost?

Hi all.
Have been a victoza user for the last year...
One thing that IS clear to me - is IF you return to an increased appetite again you WILL weight gain .
I work very hard to stick to extreme low carb AND small snack sized portions with everything I eat.
This does successfully keep my weight DOWN and prevents any extra pounds creeping on me !
Am very tiny in body limbs [arm and legs] all weight always goes on my central body giving me a barrel tummy!!!
I do have to work hard to keeep and prevent this from happening as I have had a heart op and condition.
So the risks of upper body weight gain are real for me.
I continue with 1.2 dosage of victoza plus my insulin hypurin porcine isophane.
If ever you push the fullness feeling in your stomach when eating a meal , this will stretch and increase your appetites.
Best to stay within the limits and signals your stomach is fed and well at meal times, this will help with staying in plateau
level with weight. [remaining the same weight with NO increase!]
Finally I wish to let you all know it ISNT easy and I do have to work hard and stick at it, to keep my waist size down and
comfortable for myself.
It helps to KNOW exactly WHAT can and does cause weight gain, it isnt just the insulin but if hunger is overfed this too
is the main culprit !!!

I have been watching the stagnation of my appetite-loss the past for weeks, for that & for the added reason that you mention - that I hoped wouldn't affect me, having lost so much in pounds & inches - i.e. the possible outcome of weight GAIN!! :thumbdown:

Such a disappointment to have found that it can occur! :sick:

Now that you mention it, I shall keep any eye out for it myself.

This forum really is truly indispensable. I shall keep a close eye on this thread.

Thanks for that advice. :thumbup: I will keep any eye out on those weight scales/tape measure! as I do NOT want to regain any of those lost pounds/inches. :!:
 
Has anyone suffered with bad headaches when they first started victoza. I've had a terrible headache for the past 2 days now and it's the only thing i can think of giving me a bad head as I never get them normally :***:
 
Hello Just a bit of advice really I ahve had type 1 for nearly 25 years I am on Novorapid and Lantus and Metformin and simvastatin I t was mentioned by my consultant 2 years ago about me going on Victoza, i have not seen her since, but saw a DN at the doctors surgery and asked her and she said Victoza is not used with Insulin users. So what is all that about?? Anyone help???
 
I have heard that if you are a type 1 on insulin you would need to be put on Victoza by a Consultant at a Hospital but the Doctor will not do it.

You are on quite a few diabetic meds combined , treating your condition .
I was totally unable to tollerate meds to treat diabetes with.
Was constantly ill and regected them 'bodily' .
The only combo that will work for me IS victoza and animal insulin.
I even reacted against levemir insulin too.
My consultant has agreed to go with this for me, due to my extreme medical intollerances .
It can only be prescribed with one other additional diabetic meds alongside it.
As you are on a few , maybe this is why .

Hi I started Victoza,about 3 weeks ago.I was on 20 Lantus a day.
Those where the instruction of the CONSULTANT :half the Lantus to 10 units for a month
take 0,6 Victosa for a month
After a month,if tolerated,up Victoza to 1,2
Stop Lantus
Now all this has to be done together with the diabetic nurse

So theDIABETIC NURSE is giving me instructions :half the insulin to 10 units for a week
take 0,6 Victoza for a week
After a week up Victoza to 1,2
Stop Lantus
And I am doing what the nurse is telling me.I am totally confused.
My sugar has gone up,dont know what to do.for the first week i lost 3 kilos.
the next week ,i gained back 1 kilo
should i insist in seeing again the CONSULTANT as the nurse is telling me persevere,your body will eventually kick in. :?:
 
What the nurse says is the normal way to go as 0.6mg is not considered as sufficient dose to have much effect but you start on that for a week to let you get used to it and see if there are any reactions. I have no experience of using Victoza with insulin and can not comment on that but my guess is that the Specialist said a month on 0.6 when they meant a week.
