Hi all,
My husband has been taking Metformin and Gliclazide for a week and a half. His levels are coming down really well (from over 20) and are now an average of about 8 a day.
The problem is his eyes, I know the drugs can make them blurry for a while and then improve but his are getting worse instead of better. Is this normal or should we be worried, it’s making him very grumpy (which is having a knock on effect on me obviously!!)
He does have bad eyesight anyway and wears very strong glasses at all times but doesn’t normally have any problems with blurriness.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
That’s very comforting, thank you.I found my eyes went very blurry for the first few weeks. I told myself it was all the sugar washing out, so much so I could see it in my tears/fluid ...not sure if that's true but it made me feel good, and it did clear.

That’s really interesting, thank you. I don’t think I’ll tell him about the 3 months timescale though! His are so bad he can’t drive and isn’t able to go to work today. I’ve been with him 25 years and he’s had 4 days sick in all that time. He might be able to do a bit of work from home but as most of it is on a computer it doesn’t seem like a good idea to me! Hopefully they’ll settle soon.According to my optometrist it’s because of osmotic pressures in your eyes. I went from a very high blood glucose (HBA1 114) which dramatically dropped (44 now) in 3 months on a low carb diet. Your eyes get used to the high sugar solution in your body & when this drops it causes them to change shape. My eyes I had changed dramatically- the only glasses I could find anywhere near to seeing out where a pair from 30 years ago! I’ve had yo change my contact lenses & glasses. It’s not cheap so wait until to hey have settled (3 months for me) & in the meantime Amazon have lots of very cheap glasses. Px
