Type 1
Hi Everyone, my Daughter has been dia with type 1 about 4 months ago at the age of 32, she lived in England and has moved back home 3 weeks to be near myself and her Father as this is very scary for her and us. She does not seem to be able to keep her blood sugar at the correct level and sometimes she is very cross or confused.
Like yesterday her blood sugar reading was 21.7 in the morning and she took her insulin to bring her to a normal level, but still a few hours later she was still 21 she gets in a panic and gets confused.
She has started a new job but is in no shape to be able to work at the moment, my questions are how long will it take before she is in control of her meds, 2 she got married 12 months ago and was planning to have children but has been told by the doctor to leave it for a few more years (how long).

Any advice would be helpful.

Thank you.

How is your daughter managing her diabetes? If she's only 4 months diagnosed she should still be in close contact with her health team for advice on adjusting insulin doses.

A good start on the basics of how to manage type 1 is the book "think like a pancreas" by Gary Scheiner

A lady with type 1 is not advised to get pregnant unless her hba1c is under 48. That is unlikely at diagnosis. The blood sugar targets during pregnancy are very tight, as high blood sugar can harm the foetus. So a lady with type 1 really needs to understand how to control blood sugar and keep in target before getting pregnant.

Can echo the recommendation for think like a pancreas. There's a really good free online course called Bertie you can find easily by googling it. You can take it at your own pace may suit either or both of you. I'd also recommend making good use of the medical services fans are pretty good but often busy so with being proactive and asking them for advice.
Just noticing done of the figures you quoted, if she goes above 15 often or for a prolonged period be worth testing ketone levels. If you don't have test stops for this tour Dan can advise and supply. Wish you both well

Hi and welcome @Noeleen51

You mentioned that your daughter was living in England but has moved home to be with you while she gets control of her type 1.
Which country is she living in now?

I only ask because it may affect the healthcare services available to her, and therefore the advice that people can suggest.

Best wishes to you and your daughter. The diagnosis is a big shock, but rest assured, once she has got control of her blood glucose, there is no reason why she can't go on to have a family of healthy babies.
