hi, im a type 1 diabetic and badly need to loose weight, im thinking of joining weight watchers but I have been advised it wont help me, has any1 done weight watchers? and lost weight? or any other diet advic?

I'm battling my weight too
I'm T2 on minimal Metformin and low carb and I found the Weight Watchers diet much too high in carbs for me. I am assured that the dietary advice has changed to be suitable for diabetics, but I'm skeptical.
I find low carb and Portion control work for me if slowly.

Personally, I didn't find weight watchers or other such diet clubs worked for me. Nothing to do with the diet, just didn't like the whole going to meetings thing! That's just me though. I prefer the whole personal trainer breathing down my neck kinda approach. Having said that, a friend of mine tried weight watchers and lost quite a lot of weight. She's not diabetic, but still shows they can get results! Give it a try and see how you did it. To me, the important thing is finding something that a) motivated you and b) you can stick to.

Good luck!

Weight watchers, slimming world etc etc etc, concentrate on high carbs, low fat and treats (usually sweets) though not a lot, but being diabetic this is not good.

Read here and follow a low carb medium to high fat diet. I know it sounds wrong "high fat" but it works, just check the posts on this forum.

I have been a Type 1 since 1974 and have lots of weigh to lose. I have lost 21lbs so far with weight watchers, joined at Easter, I find WW by far the easiest diet to follow and it works very well with my diabetes. Good luck with whatever method you choose.

I'm type 1 and lost two & half stone over 2 years by gradually reducing my calories and increasing my physical activity, I did have the help of my dietitian who advised me on ways to cut back a little whilst not being starving hungry, I'm a great believer that if you lose weight slowly you are less inclined to put it back on again.

Tesco diets do a low carb diet if thats any good to you. They do others as well. They do one called the totals plan where you input your own food choices and it works the totals out for you. You can do it online and there is help on hand and the forums there as well.

I have done weight watchers and have lost weight with it and the new diet is more protein friendly than carb friendly than their previous diet. Its whatever suits at the end of the day.

Good luck whatever you decide.
