Good afternoon, I have been a type 1 diabetic for 30 + years and had Charcot foot now for 3 years I had surgery in January to remove a foot ulcer and dead tissue. I have been off work since and whist being off have undertaken a occupational health medical which my company requested. That went well and the report gave me green light to return back to work. Yesterday I received a letter via email requesting a welfare meeting with me to discuss the medical report and how to accommodate me back to work, I expected this but I didn’t expect the content in the letter with company telling me that the company was considering my future and possible termination with the company due to my health issues I have worked for the company now for 21 years, I am now getting my self very stressed that they can just sack me because of my health I have been signed off to May 13th by which time my foot should have fully healed apart from the Charcot which is in the recovery stage.
Does anybody have any advice on this matter.
Telekon - Of course, it's super easy for me, who isn't in your situation, to suggest you don't stress too much over it, without further information.
My initial take would e that you have probably breached a trigger in an automated process for the amount or number of absences you have had in the last 12 months, or such like.
The harsh reality is employers can manage unwell employees out of their workplace, but it takes some time, and has a goodly number of steps they should adhere to.
Being away from work since January, until mid-May is quite a stretch, so I can see how this could have happened.
Do you have a date for the meeting, or do you have to contact HR or Occ Health to organise it? Either way, I'd be trying to review my employer's absence policy, where exclamation points should be detailed to make sense of it, or call HR and make enquiries.
