I'm off to the inlaws today and if anyone can think back I dont have the best relationship with them. The mother, although born and brought up on a council estate, is a bit of a snob. The dad, brought up in a posh estate and went to grammar school, is as down to earth as anything. So I'll sit and do my duty as a wife and later on get sozzled to blank out the horror of a couple of hours of their time. It would be interesting to hear if anyone else has/had a bad relationship with their inlaws.
I got on well with my in-laws although my f-i-l was a real trial after my m-i-l died last year; not that I blame him, he was angry and grieving and took it out on everybody around him. As many of you will know, he died a few weeks after his wife and, with the benefit of a bit of distance, we can see that it was the best thing for him and - I confess it freely - for Mrs h-c and me. In any event, I got on much better with them than with my dad who, at 91 is still around and not always a very nice person, but c'est la vie.
Mornin’ Clive, hope the Heathrow and London roads stay clear for you.
