I am aware of what complications diabetes can cause...but does it usually damage the eyes first or cause neuropathy first etc? Or can it differ from person to person?

My glib response would probably be, whatever it wants to, and whilst folks may know their eyes or nerves are impacted, we have no idea what's going on elsewhere.
Do you have particular concerns, or just curiosity?

Well I am a bit of a medical mystery. I have had diabetes for 7 years now. MODY gene triggered during pregnancy but caught with a hba1c of 54. All my other hba1c's ever since have been in the 30s and 40s with only one other in the 50s in the 7 years. Most recent was 49.

I have a whole host of autonomic issues that come and go but also a likely diagnosis of small fiber neuropathy. Burnung feet, sunburnt patches all over my skin and a faint tingle in my hands. Everything comes and goes. Neurologist says cause is diabetes but endocrinologist disagrees.

Recently had my eyes checked and there are no signs of damage so that's something. Trying to work out what's going on!

One thing I will say is not all bad things come from diabetes - not even kidneys, eyes, neuropathy. "Normies" get those too, but our chances just increase a bit with diabetes.

Keeping decent control is your best way forward. Rollercoasters tend to be unhelpful.
