What does my reading mean

I have been told by my doctor to get a glucose tolerance blood test done this Friday. In the meantime I have bought a blood testing reader. This morning I took my first reading and it was 20, thinking I may have done it wrong I took a second reading and this time it was 19.9 I think this may be a bit high. Can anyone advise me as to whether this means I am diabetic?

None of us here are Doctors Jan so we can only give our opinion, we can't diagnose. I would suspect with BG's of 19.9 and 20 you are indeed diabetic. Was this reading taken before or after any breakfast/drink? If it was could you tell us what you ate/drank so we have a better idea.

I hadn't had anything to eat or drink before I took the reading only couple of mouthfuls of water to take some tablets.

Just to give you some context - you'd expect the reading to be nearer 6.0 if you were non-diabetic.
Do check, though, that your hands are clean before you take the test. Sometimes I've done tests with slightly sticky hands and the reading's been wrong as a result.
And don't worry. If you are confirmed as diabetic, we are here to help and support you.
