What happens Insulin ?

what happens to any insulin after it has done it's job, I mean once it has messaged the cells etc to open for sugar does the body break it down or get rid of it via excretion or re using via liver ? sort of thing. I am asking in general ) I suppose all hormones have the same thing happen
 
it seems to me that like any other protein, it is simply broken down in the liver and kidneys and excreted in the urine.
 
As far as I recall, it is broken down in both kidney and liver. Different references point to one way or the other.

It is a protein, so it will be chopped up and reused by the body as amino acids, I would presume.
