Sugar pie - how awful for you. I was diagnosed with hyperkalemia and hypercalcemia, turns out the blood pressure meds that I took at the time caused hyperkalemia, at the same time it was discoverd that my kidneys were not functioning properly, CKD stage 4. Too much calcium caused by tumour on the parathyroid gland. BG all over the place, never lower than 10.
My medication was changed, ECG showed no damage, was advised to eat low potassium, no oranges, avocado, pulses, nuts, potatoes soaked for an hour, drain, then boil in fresh water, vegetables boil for 10mins at least, YUK.
That is when I decided low carb worth a try, CKD improved to level 2, stayed at this level since 2009. Potassium levels in the normal range.
Calcium issues resolved by parathyroidectomy, this also sorted out my bp problems, I no longer need any more meds for that.
You say you are not taking any meds, your doctor will have checked your kidney function?
I hope you get better very soon, I scared myself to death when I googled hyperkalemia, hardly dare go to sleep any more in case I die!
But by the sounds of it, you are in good hands.
