Just been to hospital for regular check up and been told that I'm not conforming to being a typical type 1 as my symptoms have come on quite slowly and I had gesstational diabetes during pregnancies which tends to mean I should be type 2 really. THe doc says he thinks I'm a LADA!!! but then never explained! I know its late onset or something (I'm 37) but that's all I know so any further information would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,
Lada = latent autoimmune diabetes in adults.
It comes as rather a shock to get it as most of us think of type one and children or teenagers. I got it in my fifties but have read of others much older.
Some light reading for you.

More difficult but informative in parts:

and in this previous post I pasted a graph that shows how LADA might progress.

Hiya,

Welcome to the world of LADA. I tried in vain to find books on LADA but found nowt. There is some info on the net but mostly, I tend to now just do what my specialist suggested....think of myself as a late onset Type 1.
If you say you are Type 1.5 it just seems to get blank looks, though LADA does have the same effect. I tend to just smile and say to folk 'I like to be different'.
