Hi I’m living in Scotland having moved from Wales 21 years ago , but not in the Glasgow area , I’m in Forth Valley , until the dreaded COVID my diabetic care was undertaken at Forth Valley hospital in Larbert ,,have to say care was great, I was put on Libre on prescription without any fuss , since COVID my appointments have been via video call ! I don’t mind this ! Bearing in mind I’ve had type 1 for 40 years so I can basically sort myself out , I suppose your place of care depends exactly where in Glasgow your moving to, Sometimes your care can be done at the GP surgery so then that would depend on the “ catchment area you move to ,failing that it maybe down at the hospital and Glasgow has a relatively new hospital The Queen Elizabeth which is excellent in my experience in its Prosthetic department , sorry if I can’t be more specific , but feel free to contact me if you have any concerns or just fancy a “ blether”

Hi, i am under nhs greater glasgow & clyde care, there are a number of clinics. Where in Glasgow are you moving to?
I have always been under the care of my local hospital Royal Alexandra in Paisley & can't fault them.

Hi, I’m under the diabetes team at the New Victoria Hospital in the south side of Glasgow. I’ve had an excellent level of care there, including starting pump therapy and all that entails. It’s not perfect obviously and I’ve struggled with consultants at times but the DSN team are exceptional, very hard working, very patient and good at giving 1:1 attention.

Let me know if you would like to know anything more specific.

I think you will likely be a patient at the QEUH but I don't have first hand experience of this clinic. A work colleague attends QEUH & speaks highly of them.

I’m in East Glasgow too, so it’s possible you may be referred to the New Victoria. Both pumps I’ve had are Medtronic, a Paradigm Veo for 4 years and now a Minimed. The support I’ve had from the clinic with anything relating to the pump has been great. I’m on Libre sensors, not a Medtronic CGM that can connect directly to my pump - I’m not sure if that’s possible in this health board, it’s something I’m trying to find out about.

When I was diagnosed I was in a different city under a different health board, and I really struggled there. Nothing was available, I was always told there was no funding and they wouldn’t even add me to waiting lists. Since I moved to Glasgow and have attended the New Vic it’s made a huge difference, and because they’re willing to discuss options with me and offer a bit of flexibility I find I have the motivation to engage with them and to work harder at my control.

To begin with my consultant was wonderful, I saw the same person on each visit for a number of years, she was familiar with me and extremely helpful. Unfortunately in the last few years (including Covid but before that too) I’ve lost continuity with who I see, sometimes a different clinician each visit. I find myself explaining my medical history at each appointment which leaves less time for up to date discussion. However even when this happens the DSN team are really consistent and available, honestly it’s a pleasure dealing with them.

The staff are amazing and incredibly supportive. Very happy with my treatment - insulin pump and libre sensor 2.

Have the utmost respect.

I'm sure you'll probably receive similar treatment at other Glasgow clinics.
