Protien can raise the blood sugar levels, but normally very slowly over a period of time..
The raise you've experience is more likely due to your natural cycle than any food you ate... All your hormones this includes how much the liver delivers glucose into our blood, flutuate durning a 24 hour period... The lowest ebb of this is normally around 2-3am Then they start to raise again, the wake up and get ready for the day... The liver dribbles more glucose into the blood stream so that you've got some energy/fuel available.. Most people experience very littel difference but others can have a more dramatic increase...
Some times if the levels are quite high (you need to compare with what the bedtime level was) and this isn't a normal occurance, then it could indicate that your bg, has dropped very low over-night (hypo range) and the body has responded with a liver dump to correct this, with this though you would expect to be quite a difference on the waking BG...
As it seems that your's is only around a 2mmol/l difference is probably just a natural raise to get you up and going
