What will happen if we eventually get given a fully private health care system??

This just popped up on my Facebook news thread.
It got me thinking atm as a diabetic we get our prescriptions free. If we eventually have to adopt the American style system, will we then have to pay for the things that we need everyday that are keeping us alive??
What do American diabetics do?

I must admit that I feel there won,t be an NHS in the future.
If and when that happens, I do worry

There are a number of different health systems around the world. Personally the American design would be one of least favourite options, but hey, I am unlikely to get a say.
