Yes of course.. most of us do and it's how we keep track of progress and see which foods have a bad impact on our blood sugars and are best avoided.. I would hazard a guess at toast being one of those for you!
I'm afraid that most GP's in the UK will simply not prescribe meters and test strips for Type 2's due to budget restrictions so have to come out with the rubbish about not "needing" to test. We might not "need" to but by golly does it help when choosing what to eat.
