What would happen if you gave a non-diabetic insulin?

Mind was wandering when I was having a mild hypo and thought I wonder what would happen if someone without diabetes is given insulin - would they automatically hypo? Would there be any health consequences as a result? I think they'd be ok as long as they had some fast acting carbs... But thought it was interesting so hence asking!

It would be dose dependant, if it were a small dose I would imagine the liver would compensate, a higher dose they'd be in deep trouble much like ourselves.

Some of us will remember the awful case involving Beverly Allitt who wickedly injected children with insulin under her care, suffice to say that no one should be given insulin unless they are diabetic......and only under the supervision of their HCP's.
 
Insulin is given to non diabetics who are suffering from a dangerous high potassium level, but it is given mixed with glucose, and obviously under close medical supervision. As others have said it is dose and person dependant as to what could happen, but people have also been known to abuse it, particularly bodybuilders and it is very dangerous to do.
 
Totally agree - did a bit of searching on Facebook and actually found a post about how someone did it. Madness!
