What's in your prescription?

I'm curious as to See what items you all collect and also, the amount of items you all receive from the pharmacy/gp per month. I use an Accu Chek Aviva Nano meter and am on injections.
Novorapid cartridges- 1 pack
Lantus pens- 1 pack
Test strips- 6 boxes of 50 (I test 10+ times a day as I am very active)
Abbott Freestyle ketone strips- 6 boxes ( I feel as though this is much MUCH more than necessary...)
Accu Chek FastClix lancets- 1 box

I almost always request the pharmacy to leave out the ketone strips for the month as I have way too many at home..I am wondering if I should take that item off my prescription? Any pointers? I have been type 1 for 11 months now.

I don't use Ketone tests tried one once when i was high due to illness and it was ok. I don't have any in house

I used to use ketone strips but unless i am feeling overly thirsty or unwell i domt test for them. I have some in the house but havent needed to order them for almost 8 months

You shouldn't have to order every item on your prescription if you don't need them. Sometimes I leave off my insulin or other items if I've built up a stockpile and all the dates are still good - stock rotation is key!

My prescription is....

  • 2x BD Microfine+ 5mm pen needles (recently changed back from B.Braun - hurrah!)
  • 4x Mobile test cassettes (used to be 6x but not testing as much now I'm using the Libre)
  • 1x Ketone strips - I never bother requesting these as I'm never high enough to need it and we have loads at work if I'm desperate!
  • 3x Pack of 5 cartridges Novorapid (this is too much and I'm going to get it dropped at my next review, at least I'll be OK for a while in a Zombie apocalypse)
  • 2x Pack of 5 Levemir (just changed from Lantus)
  • 1x Box Accuchek lancets
  • 1x Sharpsguard 1L

2 boxes freestyle like test strips (200)
Numerous pills of which there are 7 scripts some of which only last 28 days

I have fortnight visits to my chemists, monthly visits to my gp, and monthly visits to my Specialist and thats if nothing happens in the meantime between visits.
OH forget weekly soon to be fortnightly visits to the occ health psychologist and 6 weekly to other psychologist which will now cease
I always seems to come out of the chemist laden down
 
I wasn't aware that you didn't have to order the whole prescription if you had enough of a certain item at home.. guess I'll be reducing my monthly order thanks for the insight ^_^
 
I too didn't know you could miss something off...well, without it causing a problem trying to get it added back on.

I get:
10 Levemir pens
10 Novorapid pens
350 test strips
10 ketone test strips
400 4mm needles
200 lancets
And one of those needle slicers...can't remember what it's actually called.

I think that's it...and that's a 2 monthly prescription.

Definitely stockpiling some needles here, so might miss them off for a while.
 
Your repeat prescription lists all the things you have on repeat - each item has a box next to it - if you need an item, put a tick in the box, if you don't, don't tick the box. They will issue the item you have asked for and give you back your repeat prescription, which will continue to have all of the same items on it. Most of the items we have (needles, test strips, insulin) will be prescribed "as needed" so there is no set time frame on when you can reorder. However, each script will need to be signed off by your GP (or more likely their prescribing clerk/admin) and if it looks like you are ordering "too much" of something, they might not sign off before they have actually seen & discussed with you.

Currently I have

10 novorapid cartridges
10 lantus cartridges
900 test strips for agamatrix
400 Dario test strips
100 4mm needles

The agamatrix test strips are special for the next 6 months of a 3 month supply.

The Dario ones are my standard ones which I'll use again afterward my trip.

Equally, I'll probably half the numbers of cartridges, but right now, it's a stupid amount!
