What's the stupidest diabetes mistake you've ever made?

Mine is accidentally injecting fast acting insulin instead of long acting when I didn't quite know what was going on in the middle of the night
 
I've done that.
Also on a trip to Dublin, forgot to bring my long lasting insulin. It was a whole palaver trying to get Dr in north to contact pharmacy in the south in order for them to sell me the insulin I needed.

Not done that, but have injected my basal twice in one evening and was working night-shift at the time.
 
I've injected extra basal instead of mealtime bolus.

I've also mixed up my evening adn morning basal doses when on MDI and given myself a full basal dose instead of my intended 1U prior to a long run. Had to eat loads that day.
 
as a T2....Just one wont hurt...a fatal mistake, when you end up with an empty packet..my carb trigger is still there
 
I went on a weekend away with only one test strip. Emergency trip to Boots to get some more!
 
On diagnosis, my stupidest mistake was buying a lot of (rather expensive) cookbooks from the Danish Diabetes Association - and thinking 'wow'; I barely need to change my way of eating! - but my numbers didn't move!

It was only after finding fora such as this that my numbers dramatically improved. It goes without saying that I have now given them away ... - hmm ...

My stupidest diabetes mistake was not realising I had it! I thought all my weird symptoms were menopausal symptoms. Turned out to be T2.
 
Growing up with creamy custardy things and homemade rice puddings etc
I was cocky in the first 6 months of Diagnosis - thought just one Coffee
Renoir cake made with real confectioners creamy custard wouldn't do any damage .

Mental 'daft' idea my diabetes had left me and gone away someplace else !
So bought one - split it into two pieces and absolutely thoroughly
enjoyed them for a few mad moments !

How wrong was I ???
2hours later - found my BG levels shot up to the late teens .
Felt so ill rest of the day - learnt a hard and quick lesson .
I can tell you all - I have never ever done it since either .
No more kidding myself I am without diabetes ...
Its with me 24/7 and it lets me know it too

Talk about learning fast and quick from doing something so daft
I certainly did .
 
I've injected my basal dose (12 u) as bolus. Also drinking diet fizzy drink thinking it was sugary fizzy drink to treat a hypo (dark, did not see writing on can) and then waiting to feel better and getting worse.
 
I think mine must be becoming a diabetic in the first place.

Believing nurse who told me I didn't need to test BG, as all I would gain from that would be sore fingers. I was too gullible to not realise this was standard NHS script.

Not realizing I was diabetic. Only system was a slight tinge in both feet. You could say getting cancer saved my life
And forgetting in I have taken insulin so instead testing, taking a dose. Then going hypo
 
Today I made a really stupid mistake.. someone brought back some clotted cream shortbread - they are round and about the size of a 50 pence piece. I had 3 of them - they were only tiny - thought they wouldn't make much difference. 30 or so later I started to feel unwell - I tested by blood and it was15.1 ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
 
Stick to the nuts.
 
When I was taking insulin and was away for the weekend, I remembered my insulin pen but forgot my needles!

These days, my mistakes are buying full sugar drinks or jelly buy mistake. Can usually tell though
 
Mistaking a morning after a heavy night high blood sugar for a really, really bad hangover, and not testing my BS. Ended up in hospital for 48 hours with DKA needing to re-stabilise.
 
Fancied porridge today for breakfast. It's a while since I had it so I thought I'd give it a go again. Bg before 6.7.. 1hrs after 11.5 . This was 35g oats made with water with a sprinkle of raspberries and a dollop of double cream. Down to 10 at 2hrs after drinking for Europe and a walk.....meh...
 
Listening to my GP and the diabetic Nurse when I got an HbA1c of 5.8% - they said "that's far too low, you must eat more carbs, yada, yada, yada" and I did what they said. Not been able to get back to the 5% club since...
