I know that there are a number of T2's on this forum who are on insulin injections and I wondered when it became necessary to change to injections and does this happen eventually to all T2's. Some it seems were put straight on to injections at diagnosis so what is the criteria for this do you have to be over a certain BG level to warrant injections
 
Well I don't know the criterion for going onto insulin directly at diagnosis for T2s but they did it to me and I weaned myself off it (and all D meds ). Some do it to give their pancreas a rest (but in my case I think the docs forgot to have a prog to wean me back off!
I think the general criterion will be when the body cannot produce enough insulin for you to cope with your carb level i.e. knackered islet cells on your pancreas.

I know some diabetics who had to go on injections but later on were able to stop all diabetes medication. The reason they couldn't control bg at first was the dietary advice to have carbs. When they did the opposite they didn't need neither insulin nor metformin. Another friend of mine is on insulin and morbidly obese. He still clings to the dieticians advice and eats a lot of bread. It makes me so sad as I know I will loose him, he already had two heart attacks. We have been friends since our teens. I think the advice he gets is criminal. It will kill him.
 
How sad that it seems he just does not want to know that if he went low carb or even just cut out the his starchy carbs he would loose some weight and maybe encouraged to carry on with a heathier diet
 
Must be really unlucky where Totto is, I have be honest, I know very few T2's here, yet alone several on insulin, either still taking it, or stopped again.
So I guess it's not inevitable you go onto insulin at any stage.
