I was recently diagnosed type 2 with a BS of 81, my as put me on 2 500mg of metformin per day. When I asked about meter for self testing she said not to worry need? I have 2 appointments this week one for a eye test and another to see the Dr. If her answer is the same again regarding self testing, I will purchase one being the codefree meter which seem to get a lot mentions on here. Is there any preference on which type it states wether mmol or mg?
Also why some Drs are all for self testing and others totally against it?

mmol is the unit currently used in the UK so if you're living here go with that version. But I think you'll find that the correct models for the country are generally sold, though there are some mg models sold on ebay.

Thanks Robbity it was on Amazon, I also travel to Spain frequently do they use mmol

How many test strips does one use per month on average? I understand that everybody may test more than others. It's that I'm about to order Codefree meter and just wondering about how many strips to have in advance.

Check through some of the threads regarding Codefree, as I believe they often have a voucher code for larger quantities of strips. But otherwise I'd suggest that you get 100 strips to start with as they'll last a while if you don't use them immediately.

How many you use will depend on how often you choose to test, and that's really up to you. But to get useful information to start with, it's probably worth testing on waking, immediately before and 2 hours after meals, and before bedtime, which would be approx 50 strips a week.

I have just asked a question about these meters cos the strips are not available from suppliers to chemists.

I am eligible to have the strips on prescription cos I take glicazide but they cannot be obtained only bought it seems.

Just had call from surgery and they are now giving me a meter with strips which I can get on prescription.

Sorry know you are in a different situation

What is the Drs. motives regarding not prescribing meters and strips?

I have replied on your original thread with how your pharmacist can achieve that, katpaul.
