This guy invented and develloped numerous things and saved the lives of countless people including firefighters, soldiers and vehicle operators.

My earlier clue said your last pic and this one could be linked in a Light hearted way. xx

The one I searched for was the gas mask invented "George Garret"
The clue was quite easy "american. African inventer" this guy was 5th on that list ! It is G Garret
