Who are they?

Years ago the Earl of Arran (Buffy) was a newspaper columnist. One day his column berated the Scots for some reason and this offended a Scots friend of mine.

My friend wrote a letter to Arran saying, "I am a Scot and I object" in the belief that he was defending the Scots.

He got a reply from Arran as per the following.

"Thank you for your letter. I wish all my correspondents expressed themselves with such brevity and point. Of course you object. If I were a Scot so would I."

My friend carried that reply in his wallet all the time I knew him and probably still does.
 
Wonder if Shakespeare would have approved.

Hi Damonfrog.

Izzzis clue was a car.

Cleo... Renault Cleo... Cleo Lane.

But Willies Shakespeare clue still has me foxed.

Stick with it. Every picture is uniquely guessable. Just depends on whether you get it.

This particular thread has become rather an addiction to me.

Infinately better than what I have been addicted to in the past....

'scuse me jumping in Squire Fulwood.
Your pic, it brought to mind a neighbour of ours who was the first person on our street to own a car in the 50's, same as your image but all black.
He was a ticket inspector on the buses and was very proud of his uniform which he kept immaculate, imagine that happening nowadays.

He was a tiny bit mean though, he kept on his rear seat a large round metal oil drum, full width of the seat, covered with a big red curtain .
Probably got one of the men at his depot to clean up the drum for a couple of bob or mibbie even half a crown. lol

We all knew he didn't want any passengers, other than his wife. :lol:
Oh boy, those were the days.
I'll say one thing for him though, he was a very tall straight back chap and never ever past me by without giving me a cheery, 'ello willie, and that's exactly how he said it...'ello willie.

As Bob Hope used to say "Thanks For The Memory" :thumbup:

Blimey Squire Fulwood, what a car, It is also called a austin ruby. That would be a great hint for Ruby Wax.

I know it's called the Austin Ruby. I re-named it to set the cat among the pigeons. Didn't succeed then.

If anyone wants to know, Ruby Wax moonlights as a comedienne but is a class actress and a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Also Cleo Lane used to sing at the Shakespeare club in Woolwich SE London as did Dickie Valentine, Lita Rosa and Dennis Lotus.

I have given away all my knowledge now so I suppose I have the wrong answer.

AS soon as I saw Cleo Lane,I thought of "The Stables" which is a great music theatre set up by Cleo and her late husband.

But it was the jazz link that Willie refered to in his wonderful clue.

The Stables was built on their home grounds in the lovely village of Wavendon now part of Milton Keynes.
