Guzzler, I thought the following couple of links to be interesting too:
https://www.rcn.org.uk/get-help/rcn-advice/nurse-prescribing
https://www.rcn.org.uk/-/media/roya...hash=CB69DD035A7B9A1B8179EA271B1D59C86418268A
Thanks DCUKMod, the first link is very informative but I couldn't download the pdf from the second link (my old tablet playing silly beggars).
What I understand now is that the Practice Nurse has limited scope when it comes to prescribing so her 'threat' to put me on insulin was just that, an empty threat. Sometimes my nasty, suspicious mind takes a while to kick in (I have mouldered on this threat since diagnosis) but I am glad I posed this question in the end. Thanks again for all your help.

Hi Guzzler, she sounds awful. What was the basis of the 'threat' at that time?, I'm guessing this was when you were first diagnosed? What did she want you to do? If a Nurse made any sort of threat to me I would be furious, her job is to advise and help you! Obviously if your levels were sky high then the suggestion of insulin might well come in to it but I'm not sure 'insulin' is a bad thing anyway for some.
I guess the weight of much of what she said depends whether the prescription signer actually validates the detail, or accepts her opinion and judgement by default.
My GP has never mentioned Diabetes, I can't get him off the subject of statins long enough for him to talk about anything else.
My GP and I have agreed, in a sort of unspoken way, that statins are the beast that will not be named.
Well done. I'm sick of hearing about 'em. Even the receptionist asked me why I didn't need a prescription for them any more!
Oh, it wasn't always like this, but I shared my Lipids Training Program with her. OK, that's mainly a few papers, plus some excellent Professor Sikaris YouTube presentations. She went from, "I worry about these numbers. Would you like a referal to a lipids specialist", to "You must be delighted by those numbers".
Thank you Professor Sikaris!
I like my GP very much. She is young, and has only been my GP for a couple of years, following the retirement onf my previously favoured Doc. She is honest when she don't know something, and has integrity. Unfortunately, she is a salaried GP, rather than a partner, so has little sway in the surgery bigger picture.
