i am T2 on insulin. My husband does the shopping and cooking and tries hard to help me with a healthy diet. However this evening he has bought me a ready meal of meat and gravy where the carbs are 58. I said that was too high and he said I need carbs. Whats the answer? PS I am having a tin of sardines with pots and veg.

Well in my opinion, and only my opinion, you are on insulin so technically you can eat that but it would require more insulin than I’d you ate something lower carb like veggies. There is NO requirements for carbs for life. There is for protein and fat.

I am LADA and my goals are to keep my insulin usage low so I chose to eat a very low carb diet.

I would go with the sardines, pots and veg, if only because I know exactly what is in it, and sardines are good for us. Ready meals have a tendency to be cooked in unhealthy processed oils that are not good for our health in general, and also contain ingredients designed to increase shelf life, which may not be good for us. Look at the full list of ingredients and look some of them up. As a treat, they are probably OK but not as a regular choice. Maybe he just wanted a night off cooking! I know my husband does (he is also the evening meal cook in our house)
