I would go with the sardines, pots and veg, if only because I know exactly what is in it, and sardines are good for us. Ready meals have a tendency to be cooked in unhealthy processed oils that are not good for our health in general, and also contain ingredients designed to increase shelf life, which may not be good for us. Look at the full list of ingredients and look some of them up. As a treat, they are probably OK but not as a regular choice. Maybe he just wanted a night off cooking!
