why do they sell these books

Lucky for this forum the Moderators recently spotted and deleted a spam regarding a diet book.
Much to my amazement that book is still for sale on Amazon among their other diet books. ( eBay also sells tapes etc; from this author )
Not to sure if I can name the book.
My only advice is check out diet books etc; and authors before you even think of wasting your money.

info link about this book's author in her post .

Information like this is vital to bring awareness to members attention .
Then any member considering buying or possible getting such a book for free .
Can make a well/better considered decision collectively from the info provided .

All the other posts were deleted - PM sent to the OP also by myself.
The mods team do try their best here - especially with any unsuspecting/vunerable members .
Better to have had this info highlight than not at all .
 
The Internet and bookshops are awash with diet books izzi, your advice on checking out the book first is good advice.

Absolutely agree, there is nothing you can do about what Amazon sells unless they are breaking the law. In the UK they are definitely breaking the law if they advertise a book claiming to give information on how to cure Cancer. It takes time but people have been able to get such books removed from sale.
Otherwise it's not easy to substantiate that they are advertising a book making false health claims, it can be done though. Many people complained about an antivaccine book and the advertising standards authority did take Amazon to task over it.

However the book is still on sale with a disclaimer!

There is nothing I wish to do to stop Amazon selling books. I like free speech and I like disagreeing with some of it. I don't like drivel and I think old organisations that burned books need serious adjustment.

Amazon are not the judge of books. The buyer is.
 
They all come with a disclaimer on the last page, stating the book is the opinion of the author, medical statements are the interpretation of the author, the reader may see a different result, etc.
Every diet book has the same type of disclaimer.
 
It depends, in principle I agree with free speech but rights also come with responsibilities and it can happen that the false promises made in some of this books lead to people delaying treatment until it's too late. That's why I would report books that broke the Cancer act and would like a stronger disclaimer on books like Melanie's Marvelous Measles .
Looking at it now though I see that the review that appears top of the list for that book gives the other side of the story in a compelling way.
That's a good way of drawing attention to quackery.
 
Sorry, my fault for mentioning similar issues.
Izzis intial post referred to a book being touted in a post on here yesterday.
Actually though that article just shows that these fraudulent claims can at times be very lucrative. And also that occasionally the law catches up with the quacks.
 
Another good point,that I agree with.(damm)
However the seller should take some responsibility when given fraudulent information in what they sell.( if that was the case regarding this book )
 
I will always report a 'snake oil seller' if I see it first. But you good people around here are fast - and moderators too - mostly beat me to it

By now, I have reached the point that I have a kind of ingrained scam detector.

But not good for new and insecure posters if they hit on some of those posts and links.

So I commend vigilant posters and moderators on quickly removing posts - and especially links on 'how to cure your diabetes'.
