Hello there, this is all new to me. Yesterday my husband was diagnosed with type 2. Wow, that was a kick. How can someone who doesn't smoke, eats fresh food daily and walks everywhere have this, simple, hereditary. OK, we will deal with it. What I want to know is, 'Is there a really good dietary, food website out there?'..... Please help. I cook fresh every day, do not use tins, and neither of us eats biscuits, cakes or snacks..... I am celiac, my husband also has high blood pressure and takes medication for this... need a little advice please....

hoooray,
welcome. You cook fresh! and you are coeliac, so you know the importance of problem ingredients. From what I have found the key problem ingredient is carbohydrates so you need to google "low carb recipes" or check out our own Whitby Jet's recipes on here. The fine tuning is down to testing with a BG meter how your husband responds to particular ingredients and amounts. some can cope with porridge, others spike horribly. By checking at pre meal and +2 hrs you should find the main culprits although high fat foods can take longer to spike. Some HCPs swear that the 3/6 month HbA1c is enough to monitor the BGs but reducing the spikes is important too.
So sorry about your husbands diagnosis quite a few of us on this forum were in the same position when diagnosed but with the help of this forum and others we have "got a grip" there is lots of good advice on here I would recommend getting hold of a glucose monitor and checking before a meal and 2 hours after to see what certain foods do to his blood glucose levels carbohydrates are usually the worst offenders for high results .Have a look round on the forum and ask any questions there is always someone here to answer Dont panic !
