Hi all,
I've had diabetes for ten years ( type 2 ),I'm a train driver when I was diagnosed with my illness I was working shifts, with advice from my consultants and doctors I was given hours that helped me control my diabetes, now in their wisdom my company are trying to force me to work shifts again, I know that I will not cope on shifts as I also have sleep apnoea just wondered if anyone else also had similar problems
They should make reasonable adjustments for you under both health and safety law and the DDA.
You are within your rights to request specific working hours, but they do not have to be infinitely flexible to every request. Best thing I could suggest would be that you talk to both your HR dept, Union Rep and your H&S team and explain the situation. This is a fairly delicate balance of risk here as your sleep apnoea could also put passengers at higher risk if not managed well.
