Would this affect HbA1c?

Hi there,
I was experiencing flu symptoms/some diabetes symptoms and therefore had my HbA1c and random glucose tested. My A1c was 33 and my random glucose 3.8. I know HbA1c is based on average of the month but I was just wondering if not eating for a few days could have affected this. These flu symptoms meant that for about 4/5 days I barely ate and I also threw up once before then getting tested. Would this have lowered my HbA1c or would this have made no difference if I were diabetic?
Thankyou

Hi @sec123 and welcome to the forum. An HbA1c of 33 is excellent. You are not diabetic.
The HbA1c test measures your blood sugar levels over the previous 8-12 weeks. Any flu symptoms or any other infections/illnesses would be more likely to raise your bs levels. Not eating for a few days would have probably lowered them, but wouldn't have affected the average over 12 weeks very much.

I agree with @Prem51 and would add that your flu symptoms and not eating properly may well have been a reason for the low random glucose test. If, as you say, you had not eaten before your test, it wasn't a random test, it was akin to a fasting test.

No doctor would diagnose diabetes based on your test results.
