The first page of this newsletter deals with the above in a clear and sensible form and must be of interest to all diabetics and emphasises the need for speedy medical treatment for "Sores and wounds". I would like to add that, in my opinion resulting from a very traumatic experience 8 months ago, any severe knock or blow to a lower limb should also receive immediate medical treatment - preferably in hospital. I failed to realise the seriousness of a very sharp blow to my ankle in a traffic accident and the resultant swelling to the whole leg, foot and ankle causing excrutiating pain to the back of my calf and under the thigh. Local doctors gave me diuretics for the swelling ( exactly the opposite of what should have been done) which seriously de-hydrated me to the point that I was admitted to hospital. There I was diagnosed with three serious bloodclots to the groin and leg which I am absolutely certain were as a result of my Type 2 condition. Before my illness I could be hit by a train without effect ha ha ha especially on the rugby field - I know I cannot prove this but I do not believe in co-incidences and offer this advice in the hope that at least one member may be saved by my story.
