Wrights and Burgen Bread

Made some Wrights Multi Grain bread mix other day but spikes me quite a lot. Whats experience of shop bought Burgen.. Soya and Linseed good because?..
 
It was good for me.

I don't eat it now as I'm on a self imposed low calorie diet, but I didn't used to spike after I ate a couple of slices.

I use soya, almond, and chick pea flour to bake normally.
 
is the soya almond chick low cal??.. where would i buy that plus what recipe to make it in to loaf?
 
I use burgen Soya and Linseed and also the LIvlife, which is aailable from Waitrose. I keep portions small. Bugen is a normal size loaf, so 1 slice. Livelife is a small loaf so I allow myself 2 slices a day. I toast either bread, both crisp up well and taste good. i just had a slice of Livlife toast with Camembert cheese for my lunch.

soya flour 446 calories per 100g, 30g carbs
almond 578 calories per 100g, 20g carbs
chick pea flour calories, 387, carbs 60g

white flour, calories 455, 95 carbs.

so they're not low calorie, but they're are low GI, and less carbs than white flour.

So if a slice is about 25g, one slice just over 100 calories.
So in moderation it's ok.

On a very low cal diet I don't eat it often.

No recipe, I just substitute by volume for white flour, and tried a few to see what gave something that looked like a loaf.
Some didn't rise, some cane out doughy, some were excellent.
I made a note of what worked, and took it from there.

The low GI worked well for me though, as they don't cause me the spike white flour does.

Supermarkets stock it occasionally, if not I buy it from the health food shop.
 
amazing how these flours are much lower GI... will go google to see where i can buy the flour...thx
 
Chick Pea Flour is also known as gram flour, you'll get it at any asian supermarket or in the foreign food section of a lot of supermarkets and it'll be a lot cheaper than from a health food shop I would guess

The only thing to remember is it probably won't go right first time, but I have to admit I even enjoyed the mistakes after not having the bread mixes I used to love for so long.

The kids make some good cakes for me as well, using the flours and canderel.
 
im struggling to find an online stope who can do all 3 flours and at a reasonable price... who have you favoured?
 
oops i mean ONLINE STORE.. typo... just reading a web site thats very anti almond flour and favours coconut but i suppose everyone has different views... its a usa site

Sounds well worth a try
I think it's a low GI, but it is a very high fibre, and can absorb a lot of water from the gut, so drink water or liquids.

What do you reckon the overall GI rating youre getting for the loaf ... maybe 50?.... not sure on the percentage quantities youre using etc..
 
White bread is around 70, rye bread around 65,

but chick peas around 35, soya flour around 25, almond flour around 25.

so I'd put it a bit lower.

What percentage of the flours to try here?.. each a third of total of different amounts for my trial loaf?
