Hi Gaz, I've only used xdrip+ with libre/blucon, not sure what rig you're using (g6 maybe?) but this is what worked for me, I imagine it's vaguely similar for most set ups.

From the home screen, click the "hamburger" three line menu at top left, go to Settings, then Hardware Data Source, you'll get a screen like first pic below (pic is from an older version - doesn't have G6 on it). Select your data source so it knows what it's looking for and what to do with it.

Then, click back to the home screen, go into the menu again, select Bluetooth Scan, it'll bring up a screen like 2nd pic below. It should eventually "find" your transmitter. So long since I did it I can't remember but it's then either tap, double tap or long-press the found sensor, that'll bring up another screen. You type the transmitter number into it and then click ok or whatever it is. That pairs the transmitter with xdrip so they can talk to each other. That was the step I missed when I first got blucon - was just about to chuck it in the bin but persevered with some random button stabbing and, lo and behold the number entry screen appeared like magic.

Can't recall exactly what happens after that - normally a bit of waiting till it collects a few readings then a calibration request.

It's worth going back to the main menu and nipping into the System Status page every now and then - two pages, slide left and right to see them - as it'll give you some info about whether it's actually connected or not, as per pics 3 and 4 below.

Like I say, that's the set up for libre/blucon, don't know how it does it for dex. xdrip+ seems to be able to connect to anything - next time in John Lewis kitchen dept I'm going to do a bt scan and see if it'll connect to one of their smart wifi enabled fridges...

Hi Gaz-m, Using xDrip+ with the G6 you need to:
Go into Settings, then Hardware Data Source & select G5/G6 Transmitter.
In the Settings menu select Dexcom Transmitter ID, and enter your transmitter ID.
Then go back to the home screen & press the red xDrip icon to bring up the drop down menu.
Switch on the "Source Wizard Button".
Follow the wizard - you'll need your sensor number. This automatically sets various parameters, including native mode if I remember correctly
You'll have to wait 2 hours perhaps a little more. It should then start without calibrations.

Is this a new sensor or a restart?
If it's new & you began by using the official app on your iPhone, then call Dexcom for a replacement.
If you are restarting then try disabling native mode in xDrip+ & Reset All Calibrations on the menu in the main screen.

I wonder whether you can pair two phones with one sensor?

@DunePlodder makes a good point about pairing a sensor with two phones.

I'm looking at this from a different libre/blucon context, and don't pretend to have any knowledge of dex, but what happened with my rig is that I started with blucon paired to it's own inhouse app, LinkBluCon, from the makers, Ambrosia Systems.

Then xDrip+ tuned up in September to allow input from blucon.

So I tried to get it paired with that instead. Couldn't get it working at all. It was a bit of a f**k it moment, but I eventually cottoned on to the fact that even though I'd closed LinkBlucon, it was still working away quietly in the background, demanding some bt input from the transmitter, and xdrip was asking it stuff as well, so the poor wee transmitter just got confused and stopped playing.

I sorted it by force closing LinkBluCon and deleting it from the phone. It worked ok with xdrip after that.

I suspect that if you're trying to run transmitter output to both the official app on iphone and xdrip on a separate android, the transmitter has basically said, ***, who am I meant to be talking to here?

You might have to make a judgment call at some point about unpairing the transmitter from the iphone app (turning the phone off won't sort it - it'll still be technically paired with that phone (I'm not 100% sure about that - just guessing)), deleting the official app, and then trying it through xdrip again.

My general take on it from my blucon experiences is that having a bluetooth transmitter running in the general vicinity of two programs running on two phones both demanding its attention is never going to work out well, so delete/erase one of them.

Sorry @Gaz-M , I don't understand the question? Do you mean does xDrip upload data? It can send data to Nightscout.

Nightscout has lots of useful reports. Long shifts in this heat are not much fun. Good news about the sensor. It's always worth trying a large drink of water (e.g. a pint) - sometimes this kick starts the sensor into action. Older ones don't like it if you are dehydrated.
